Arnold’s Blueprint: Why Vision Changes Everything

His own parents didn’t believe in him.
He heard it all the time from his father that, he should be useful to people instead of working out, by chopping wood for example.
But he was laser focused.
He had no time to waste on distractions in his perspective.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-American actor, producer, retired bodybuilder and former Governor of California.
With a clear mindset and his goal in front of him, Arnold became youngest person ever to win a Mr. Universe (most prestigious international bodybuilding event) in 1967, at 20 years old.
Inevitably, people asked him about his “secret of success”, at the countless conferences he gave.
They wanted to know how he was able to:
- workout 5 hours a day
- took acting classes between 8 pm to midnight
- worked in construction so he could pay his bills
every single day.
His answer were always along these lines.
“Most important thing is to have a vision. To know exactly where you are going.”
His vision was “becoming the greatest bodybuilder of all time.”

The Austrian Oak won 7 Mr. Universe events of them in his professional bodybuilding career.
He found his “North Star” in bodybuilding.
And it was just a beginning.

The North Star or Polaris, is located above to the earth’s north pole. What makes it a special star, is the role it has about navigation.
Early sailors used the North Star to navigate in oceans.
In northern hemisphere where the star is visible to them; if they could make sure they were facing Polaris, they were facing north.

Clearly, this is common knowledge; Astronomy 101 if you will.
How is this related to Arnold in any way?
The facts around North Pole were just the truth, after their discoveries.
In a sailing ship:
- Navigator did not need to worry about the route all the time, because they had a way to use the location of the Polaris.
- Quartermaster did not think about if the pole star really pointing to the north or not, because it always was.
- Captain does not question whether or not the north pole is going to be in the sky at a given night or not, because it would.
These were not open to questioning.
They didn’t need to be.
Arnold had his vision set, just like any sailor would do about the north pole.
I looked forward to another thousand reps of sit-ups, another 500 pounds of leg press, more and more curls until my arms fall off.
Why?
Because I knew that every rep that I did and every set that I did and more weights that are lifted I get one step closer to turning that vision into reality.
So I was turned on by that. I was excited.
I couldn’t wait to get to the gym.
Arnold is loved by his fans deeply. He tries really hard to connect with them on every social media platform including his newsletter.
This sentence from him, had the biggest impact on my mindset.
“We are not going to be remembered for how much we made, but for how much we have given.”
Just because someone asked him politely on Reddit, he recorded himself saying “Come with me, if you want to lift.”

It was a wonderful joyride for Arnold.
He had his pole star, his blueprint, his vision.
